Against the clamour for a reduction of nomination fees by political parties to enhance access for more participation in the political space, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the cost of its nomination forms for the forthcoming governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa States by 400 per cent.

National Publicity Secretary of the party, Kola Ologbodinya disclosed this on Thursday, June 20, 2019 while speaking with newsmen after the party’s NEC meeting.

Those interested in vying for the governorship seat in both states on the platform of the party will now pay N20 million for the purchase of the nomination forms as against N5m during the 2019 general election.

“The cost of production of forms, organising free and fair elections have also increased,” in an apparent justification of the new hike.

According to the party timetable, primaries for both elections will hold on Tuesday, September 3, 2019.

While sale of forms are to begin on Monday, June 24, screening will begin on August 19.

The governorship election is scheduled to hold on November 16, 2019.
