Residents of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State have lamented on the increase in transportation which is affecting their living.

Speaking with Kristina Reports on Friday, September 6, 2024, Irene told newsmen that she has decided to withdraw her children from their school to enroll them in a nearby school closed to her house.

She admitted that it wasn’t her wish but the current situation demands for such measures.

“It’s painful but I can’t bear it. I have two children. Formerly I pay N200 as transport. Now per person is N500. I will still think of paying tuition fees and other bills. I’m tired. So I have to withdraw them. They should go to a nearby school where they can walk home. Even if I don’t like the school, I’ll try to make sure their standards don’t drop”

In another chat with Kristina Reports, another parent who simply addressed himself as Solomon said the situation is getting worsen by the day and he’s at sea of the next line of action to take.

“I went to Caro market this morning from my house, I paid N150, and later that afternoon, I was asked to pay N300 to the same Caro market. I kept asking why, but they wouldn’t answer, they just zoomed off.”

“I’m really sad because of my boys and girls, I don’t know the next line of action to take because they school in okochiri. How much will I pay for Transport. So that is my plight.”

Kristina Reports also chatted with Wariboko, a middle-aged petty trader who lamented over the situation, describing it as a ‘punishment’.

“We don’t even want to talk about sales that have dropped because of people don’t have money. I had to trek from refinery Junction to Ekerekana, I was paying N400, now N700. There is no money and nobody is doing anything about it.”
