The Electoral Committee of Orupiri Youth Association (OYA) says the elections into various offices in the OYA executive would hold once all statutory regulatory requirements have been complied with.

Chairman of the Committee, Ipirinye Fenibo said this on Sunday, January 28, 2024 in an interview with Kristina Reports in Bonny, Rivers State, shortly after his meeting with the Chairman of Orupiri Community, Warisenibo James Jumbo.    

He advised the contestants, their supporters and all youths of Orupiri Community to prepare for the forthcoming polls, saying it is an opportunity for the youths to decide the direction of progress of their community.  

He debunked rumours making the rounds that the election has been cancelled, stressing that the Elders Council of the Community has not met to take any such decision, thus they should continue with their preparations ahead of the polls.  

“I wish to state that this information is false. As at now, the Elders Council of Orupiri has not met to cancel or put the Orupiri youth election on hold. Please all should disregard this information.”

Also speaking, one of the contestants for President of the OYA, Dienye Jumbo said she and her teeming supporters are well prepared for the forthcoming polls, asserting that it is time for a new dawn in the ancient and ancestral community of Bonny Kingdom.

“The youths represent the future and if Orupiri has to move forward the youths have to play an integral role but that cannot happen without a pragmatic and visionary leadership. That is what I promise to offer to my brothers and sisters.”

The Electoral Committee Chairman informed that in compliance with the directive of the Chairman of Bonny LGA, Dame Anengi Claude-Wilcox, the Orupiri Youth Association has written to the Bonny Youth Federation (BYF) and copied the relevant institutions intimating them of the forthcoming election.

He said once the necessary processes have been complied with, a date and processes for the election would be announced, assuring that it is going to be a free, fair, peaceful and credible election.
