Ibom Air, the Akwa Ibom State owned airline has acquired the first set of ten new Airbus A200-300 from Airbus, a European manufacturing company.
This is coming two years after the deal for the purchase of the airbuses was completed at the Dubai Airshow in November 2021.
Group Manager for Marketing and Communications of Ibom Air, Aniekan Essienette said the handover was done at Airbus’ Mirabel facility in Canada and had in attendance the former Governor of the State, Udom Emmanuel, under whose tenure the purchases were made as well as other top officials in the company including the CEO, Mfon Udom.
Udom explained that the company’s decision to incorporate new airbuses to the already existing fleet is a step to actualizing the company’s dream of being the most successful airline in the country and with time, the continent and beyond.
“The introduction of the Airbus 200-300 to our fleet is a game changing leap forward for Ibom Air. The decision to invest in a fleet of highly efficient brand new aircraft to power our growth plans underscores our determination to offer no less than world-class airline services to our valued customers.”
The airline which began commercial operations in 2019 has rapidly risen to become one of the most leading airlines in the Nigerian airspace and has consecutively received the award for the best airline of the year over the past three years.
Ibom Air currently has seven aircraft (five Bombardier CR900 and two Airbus 200-300) in its fleet and flies 11 routes traversing six cities in the country including Uyo, Abuja, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Lagos and recently launched its maiden sub-regional flight to the neighboring West African country Ghana.
Following the arrival of the new aircraft, Ibom Air is set to extend its operations to other West and Central African Countries.
