A pressure group, the Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF) has called for visible interventions by the Rivers State Government in Bonny Local Government Area.
It said these interventions will have positive impact on the lives and circumstances of the people of the area.
Chairman of BGF, Awoiyeala Allison made this call when he spoke to Kristina Reports on the sidelines of a recent townhall meeting organized by the lawmaker representing Bonny constituency in the State House of Assembly, Abinye Pepple, in Bonny Island.
Allison tasked the lawmaker to make this happen as a way of demonstrating responsible and functional representation of his constituents.
The BGF Chairman had earlier made a presentation to the lawmaker where he stated his group’s demands.
Among the demands made by BGF were post graduate scholarship scheme to be included as part of his projects to support graduates seeking to further their education.
The body also asked the lawmaker to consider the furnishing of the Bonny Library which has remained obsolete without modern books.
BGF further demanded that graduates’ employment should be mainstreamed and prioritized especially at the State level such as the State Civil Service Commission, State House of Assembly Service Commission, Local Government Service Commission, amongst others.
BGF, through its Chairman also asked for the intervention of the State Government in the Zonal Hospital, Bonny. It demanded that issues of understaffing, rehabilitation of infrastructure, supply of drugs, and routine supervision should be prioritized.
BGF also demanded the lawmaker’s intervention in periodic checks on the Bonny Marine Transport Association (BMTA) with a view to ensuring they adhere strictly with marine, safety and security best practices. It said this was necessary to ensure that travelers’ safety and security were assured.
