Construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has indicated it is abandoning the Bodo-Bonny Road and Bridges project with effect from Sunday, March 31, 2024.
The company also announced that it is shutting down its operational bases in Bonny and Gokana Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
This is contained in a letter dated 14th March, 2024, signed by its Technical Manager, I. Edinger, and Commercial Manager, D. Pinders, and addressed to the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, DSSRS, JP, Perekule XI.
The construction firm said it regretted its inability to continue with the construction of Bodo-Bonny Road due to what it described as “no improvement and its clients not making things easy for us”.
The company in the letter with reference number: D12.90-1-14.020-L-24.0025, which was sighted by Kristina Reports, further regretted that from the Sunday, April 1, 2024 “our site shut down completely for the time being”.
It stated that all officers nominated to the company from Bonny Kingdom have been rendered redundant except the Community Liaison Officer (CLO), Adonye Wilcox.
The Bonny-Bodo Road project is a Private/Public Partnership project funded by the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) under the Federal Government’s tax rebate policy for companies that fund public sector projects around their area of operation.
The road about to be abandoned has bridges across Opobo channel route 430 in Rivers State which will continue to pose economic challenges to the people of Bonny Kingdom as well as Ataba Kingdom in Andoni LGA.
