Joseph R. Biden Jr. has been elected 46th president of the United States according to international media projections in the US.

Biden polled a total of 290 electoral college votes or 50 percent against the incumbent, Donald Trump with 214 electoral college votes or 48 percent.

President-elect, Biden will have the first female elect vice president in the history of American politics in person of Kamala Harris.

The projection was concluded after nearly five days of vote counting across the country.

The state of Pennsylvania gave the president-elect the victory as predicted by international media.

Supporters of Democrats in the city of New York, Atlanta and across the country have trooped out cheering.
