The Akwa Ibom State Government is set to begin the reconstruction of the Ofryio Bridge as well as the gully erosion control project on the Afia Nsit Road, Eket.
This was established yesterday, November 6, 2023 when the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno visited the sites of the intended projects in Eket for necessary inspection.
The Governor remarked that by carrying out the gully erosion project on Afia Nsit Road, the hope of the residents of the area have been rekindled as they have been separated from their neighboring communities and their business have come to a halt as a result of the dire situation of the road.
He directed that the Ofriyo bridge be created in order to create an alternative route for people going to Uyo from Eket through Ikot Ekpene Udo.
He explained that these projects are a part of his administration’s rural development projects and assured citizens and indigenous of the state that there will be more projects like this as the government is focused on making life better for the people.
“We believe that this is part of our rural development drive and we should go to the hinterlands and try to help them by doing certain things.
“I know of a community in our state that has not seen a single government road and we are working hard to flag off some roads there because we believe that rural communities must also feel the workings of the government.”
The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga expressed regret over the fact that the gully erosion affected and cut off five communities detaching Idung Iniang from Idua and other close by communities.
He assured the people that the roads will be constructed in line with the international standard and upon completion would de-flood the communities, reconnect people and solve the problem of erosion after the proper drainage system has been put in place.
