A socio-political group, the G-30 Ibani Voice says it is highly disturbed by the deplorable state of educational facilities in Bonny Local Government Area.

A patron and trustee of the group, Cyril Dan-Jumbo and Tola Salau, PhD, told Kristina Reports on the sidelines of a schools tour by the group at Dan-Jumbo community that the state of the facilities calls for urgent action by stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

Dan-Jumbo said “the condition of this school gives me serious worry. Even the school was closed down and then we fought for the school to be reinstated.”

He regretted that the government was not doing anything to rehabilitate the schools.

“The government is not doing anything for us. All you have seen is all our effort, all community efforts. We are trying to get a football field for them.”

He further lamented that the axis comprising Dan-Jumbo, Green’s Iwoama, Banigo, among others has no secondary school.

The retired Navy officer called on the state and local governments to intervene in the school with a view to revamping the infrastructure there to make it conducive for the children to learn.

On her part, Salau, who is also the founder and Executive Director Carisma4Education, a nongovernmental organisation committed to mainstreaming issues related to Education in Nigeria, said there was hope for Education if the relevant stakeholders can act in the interest of the children.

She urged the children not to despair despite the sorry state of their schools.
