Popular television drama queen, Funke Akindele, aka Jenifa and her music-producer-husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, aka JJC Skillz, were today, Friday October 9th 2020 pardoned by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu after they were convicted in a non-custodial bases for violating the lockdown order in April, 2020.
Also, the governor released 56 inmates in various correctional facilities in the state.
The couple were convicted for holding an in-house birthday party while celebrating her husband’s 43rd birthday by a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba.
The pardon which was granted by the governor was conveyed in a statement signed by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN, stating that “the governor acted based on the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, under the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 212 (1) & (2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.”
Also, the 56 released inmates were recommended by the Advisory Council after due examination of their case files and consideration of the length of time they have served in prison, the gravity of offence, old age and ill-health among other parameters.
The Attorney General urged the released inmates and the celebrities to be good citizens and stay away from crime.
