The youths of Enugu State under the auspices of The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu chapter, has officially called off the planned protests against police brutality scheduled for November 1st and 2nd.

The youth council stated this in a statement signed by the Enugu State chapter Chairman, Comrade Bartholomew Ebuka Okoh.

Comr. Okoh said the “decision comes after careful consideration of recent intelligence reports and a commitment to ensuring the safety of all participants.

“The council recognizes that the state government, local government, and security agencies have taken proactive steps to address the issues related to police brutality. Their ongoing efforts to improve the situation have been noted, and the council believes that dialogue is essential for meaningful change.

“Intelligence reports have raised concerns that some individuals with ill intentions may try to hijack the protests for their own purposes. These individuals could potentially use the protests to cause harm to public properties and disrupt the peace in our communities. To prevent this, the council has decided to prioritize the safety of our youths and the general public.

“The National Youth Council urges all Enugu State youths to remain calm during this time. It is important to give the state government and the members of the Enugu State National Assembly the benefit of the doubt as they work to address the issues that have been raised.

“The council believes that peaceful dialogue and collaboration with the authorities are the best ways to achieve lasting solutions. We encourage all youths to engage in constructive discussions with the State government and other stakeholders to foster a better understanding of the challenges we face.

“In this light, the council reaffirms its commitment to advocating for the rights and welfare of all youths in Enugu State. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and support any efforts that promote justice and accountability.

“The National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu State chapter, remains dedicated to ensuring that the voices of our youths are heard in a safe and responsible manner. We believe that change can be achieved through peaceful means and constructive engagement.

“Together, let us work towards a brighter and more peaceful future for all.”
