Nigeria U17 girls, Flamimgos, have earned a berth in the Dominican Republic 2024 U17 Women’s World Cup, after a 2-0 victory over Liberia in their second leg encounter on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Having won the first leg in a commanding 4-1 fashion away at Monrovia on Sunday, June 9, 2024, the girls were admonished to keep their foot on the pedal and finish what they had begun and in truth, they did.

The In-form, Harmony Chidi opened the scoring in the fourth minute and doubled in the 63rd minute for her 13th of the qualifiers, to seal the victory for the Flamingos.

Off an eight-goal qualifying series against Burkina Faso, the Flamingos made sure to leave no stone unturned as they won 6-1 on aggregate.

The reigning bronze medalists will now take part in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the seventh time, with this year’s edition to commence on Wednesday, October 16 and end on Sunday, November 3, 2024, in the Dominican Republic.

The Flamingos would be looking to go a notch higher than their previous performance and go for gold.

They featured at the inaugural edition in New Zealand in 2008, and subsequently at Trinidad and Tobago in 2010, Azerbaijan in 2012, Costa Rica in 2014, Jordan in 2016 and India in 2022, where they won the bronze medals.
