The comprehensive digital training for civil servants in the State is aimed at enhancing the productivity and efficiency of its workforce, the Abia State Government has said.
The State Governor, Alex Otti said this on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, during the flag-off of the training in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.
He revealed that it is one of his administration’s visions to modernize the State’s Civil Service and equip it to meet the challenges of the 21st century through digitization.
“The goal of this training is to reskill and upskill the members of the Abia Civil and Public Service, and addressing the current skill gaps in Information and Communication Technology (ICT). By doing so, the government hopes to empower staff to adapt to the demands of an increasingly digital world.”
According to the government, the training, which is being conducted across the three senatorial zones of the state, aims to reach as many civil servants as possible.
This decentralized approach ensures broad participation and accessibility, enabling civil servants from Umuahia, Osisioma, Ikwuano, Isuikwuato, and other areas to benefit from this crucial programme, with participants expressing their enthusiasm and optimism about the impact of the training.
A Director of Administration in the State Civil Service, Chiemela Elulelu shared his excitement, stating, “This is a welcome development in the State, particularly for the Civil Service. We have long awaited the digitalization of our systems, and I am thrilled to be part of this transformation”.
A staff of Office of the Head Service, Samuel Chijioke also highlighted the importance of the training, saying, “I have been exposed to a wealth of digital information that I was previously unaware of as a civil servant. This training has been incredibly enlightening and impactful”.
Many other participants praised Governor Otti for his commitment to modernizing the civil service, describing the initiative as part of the “New Abia” they have long hoped for.
