For his service to the Nigerian nation and for paying the ultimate price in the line of duty, slain police chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oliver Inoma-Abbey deserves to be conferred with National Honour by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha made this demand on behalf of his kinsmen.

Also, to underscore the mood of his people, Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, David Irimagha has condemned, in very strong words, the gruesome, barbaric and dastardly killing of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Oliver Inoma-Abbey, by suspected members of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

Inoma-Abbey, who was just recently elected the Chief and Head of the Oruigbe Abbey-Hart Chieftaincy House of Bonny Kingdom, killed at Oraifite in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

In a statement he signed by himself, Irimagha said he received the news of the late police chief’s killing with shock, expressing his condolences to the family of the deceased.

“The good people of Bonny Local Government Area received the shocking news of the gruesome and barbaric murder of our dear son, brother, uncle, father and mentor, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oliver Inoma-Abbey, who is also the Chief-Elect of Oruigbe Abbey-Hart House of the Ancient Kingdom of grand Bonny. We lack words to describe our grief over his death.”

“On behalf of the good people of Bonny LGA, I, Hon. Engr. David Rogers Irimagha strongly condemn the dastardly murder of our late father and mentor. We have lost a great man, an inspiring influence, and experienced guide, a man that has brought good value to our existence as a people, having contributed in different facets of our development.”

The Bonny LG Chairman further demanded that the Federal Government, the Nigeria Police authorities and all other relevant security agencies should act fast to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.

“We vehemently insist that the Federal Government, the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant security agencies must expedite action to bring the perpetrators of this devilish act to face justice. They must be made to pay.”

He also urged the Federal Government, Rivers State Government and the Nigeria Police Force to do everything possible to help his family find their footing, given that their breadwinner was killed in the line of duty.

“We also task the Federal and State Government, the Inspector General of Police, and the Nigeria Police Force to ensure that the best support is accorded his bereaved family for them to find a footing to continue their lives, given that their father and breadwinner’s life was cut short in the line of duty for his fatherland. His sacrifice must be acknowledged and rewarded.”

“In fairness to his commitment to duty and dedication to his service to his fatherland, we demand that a National Honour be conferred on him to immortalise his name and the ultimate sacrifice he has paid for the nation, Nigeria.”

He urged “every Bonny person to remain calm and allow the relevant authorities to address all the issues relating to the murder of our dear father,” while assuring the Igbo Community in Bonny LGA, who are “residing or doing business in Bonny LGA of their safety and security during this period and at all times. We will make sure.”
