Amid confusion earlier today that one of the Nigeria LNG’s third party operated passenger boat was involved in an incident along the Bonny Channel, the company has assured that no life was lost.

Unconfirmed reports have it that the said boat, Confidence 1, hit an old ship wreck around the Yellow Platform area which is less than five nautical miles from the Coal Beach, Bonny, and the intake of water led to its grounding.

ALL PASSENGERS ACCOUNTED FOR: Confidence 1 after hitting the shipwreck berthed by the Yellow Platform while passengers were evacuated.

Nigeria LNG’s acting Manager, Corporate Communications and Public Affairs, Anne-Marie Palmer-Ikuku  in a statement on Monday, May 16, 2022, which was made available to the Media, stated that “The Boat, Confidence 1, was en route Bonny from Port Harcourt when it struck an obstruction underwater, necessitating that the trip be aborted. All 53 passengers on board were safely evacuated”.

Allaying any concerns about compliance to safety regulations, Palmer-Ikuku maintained that “the Boat, Confidence 1, was built in Singapore in 2016 and is owned and operated by Miden Systems Limited. It was deployed to the service of NLNG in 2017 and complies with its service maintenance schedule”.

“Nigeria LNG Limited confirms that on 16th May 2022, there was an incident on one of its third-party-operated passenger boats along the Bonny Channel.

She further informed that “relevant authorities have been informed, and an investigation is currently ongoing to ascertain the cause of the incident,” adding that “Nigeria LNG remains committed to maintaining the highest safety standards in all its operations”.

Kristina Reports reliably learnt that emergency rescue personnel including deckhands and troops of the Nigerian Navy providing armed security escort for the Confidence Boats helped to evacuate the distraught passengers while the boat berthed by the Yellow Platform.
