A Catholic priest in Edo State, Reverend Father Isaac Agubi, who was kidnapped on Sunday by herdsmen at about 5pm on his way to the parish has escaped from his kidnappers.
The cleric regained his freedom in the early hours of Monday while his captors were asleep.
The Reverend Father, who is the presiding Priest of Holy Name Catholic Church, Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, Edo State, was picked up along Auchi-Igarra Road on his way to the parish.
Kristina Reports learnt that the Priest used the opportunity to escape when his abductors fell asleep.
Speaking to journalists yesterday, the Director of Communications, Catholic Diocese of Auchi-Igarra, Father Peter Egielewa, confirmed the incident and stated that no ransom was paid for his release.
“No ransom was paid, he actually escaped in the night when the kidnappers were asleep. He came out of the bush and was able totrek home; no ransom was paid”.
However, in another dimension, Edo State Police Spokesman, DSP Chidi Nwabuzor, said, Agubi was released based on the pressure from the police and collaborations with hunters and vigilante.
The Police Spokesman made it known that arrests have been made.
