The Jumbo Major House of Bonny Kingdom in Rivers State now has a new leadership to steer the affairs of its youths with a charge from the Chairman of the Elders Council to pursue peace and reconciliation among their kith and kin.

The election and subsequent inauguration of the executive of the Jumbo Major House Youths Association (JMHYA) of Bonny Kingdom was held during an Extraordinary Meeting of the association on Monday, November 9, 2020 at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

The election process was observed by the Chairman, Wari-Alabo Sodienye Jumbo, Secretary, Wari-Alabo Kalada Jene, and a member, Wari-Alabo Edmund Jumbo, of the Elders’ Council, alongside the Chairman, Sonny Jumbo, Secretary, Benjamin Ibietonye, and members, Eugene John-Jumbo, Marylyn Dan-Jumbo, Immanuel Kaladappa, and Hanson Fombo, of the Youth Harmonization and Composition Committee.

Inaugurating the new executive, Chairman of the Elders Council of the house, Wari-Alabo Sodienye Jumbo, charged the new leadership to pursue peace and eschew every form of rancour, pointing out that the youths have a key role to play in the onerous task of moving the house forward.

The new executive of the Jumbo Major House Youth Association (JMHYA) has Silvestre Idanye as President, Sylvanus Omoni; Vice President, Victor Jumbo; Secretary, Franklin Jumbo; Assistant Secretary, Allwell Lawson Jumbo; Public Relations Officer, Dienye Jumbo; Financial Secretary, Richard Siminialayim; Treasurer, Atemie Jumbo; Provost, David Jumbo; Auditor General, and Stanley Jumbo, Albert Jumbo, Vitalis Jumbo, Tamunosa Jumbo, Ibitoru Jumbo, and Harold Jumbo as Ex-Officios.

A statement by the body made available to Kristina Reports is reproduced below:

“The Extraordinary Meeting of the Jumbo Major House Youth Association (JMHYA) of Grand Bonny held on the 9th November, 2020 at the NUJ Press Centre, Port Harcourt, was observed by the leadership of the Elders Council of the House lead by Amaopusenibo, Wari-Alabo Engr. Sodienye Jumbo and the Youth Harmonization and Composition Committee of the Jumbo Major House.

The Jumbo Major House Youth Association (JMHYA) is a constitutional organ of the Jumbo Major House comprising the Community Youth Leaders and their Secretaries or as may be decided by the forum.

Given the protracted difficulty caused by incessant police invitations of the committee in conducting the youth elections by the Harmonization and Composition Committee, the body decided to hold elect a new executive for itself under the watch of the Elders Council Chairman and the Youth Harmonization and Composition Committee.

The election saw the following persons emerged victorious

In his acceptance speech, the newly inaugurated President of the Jumbo Major House Youth Association (JMHYA), Silvestre Idanye thanked the Elders Council, the Youth Harmonization and Composition Committee, and the youths of Jumbo Major House in general for the confidence reposed in him and his executive.  

Idanye assured all that the immediate task facing the just inaugurated body is one which he and other members of the executive were well aware of and are confident that they are capable of handling, promising to run an all-inclusive government where the aspirations of all Jumbo youths will be captured, stating that “equality would be our modus operandi”.

Acknowledging the cleavages among the youths of the house, the Youth President requested for six months to show results as it relates to unification and harmonization of all Jumbo youths, appealing to all youths of the house to unite to forge a common front and restore the lost glory of the house.

Expectations are high that the emergence of a new leadership for the Jumbo Major House Youth Association (JMHYA), an integral aspect of the leadership structure of the Jumbo Major House will signpost a new dawn and breath of fresh air for the chieftaincy house.
