The Rivers State Secretariat of the Action Peoples Party (APP) has been attacked by yet-to-be-identified hoodlums.

According to the narrative in a trending video, which has gone viral, a dynamite was said to have been detonated at the building shattering glasses and destroying furniture and equipment worth millions of Naira.

The incident occurred at about 1am on Monday, August 12, 2024 at the APP Secretariat in the GRA axis of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

According to an unnamed member of the APP in Rivers State, the blast occurred around 1am when assailants allegedly threw dynamite into the building, causing extensive damage to windows, doors, and other property.

He further informed that the explosion also caused significant damage to the ceiling and fittings of the building.

Some of the party’s officials were seen discussing the incident, with one fo them suggesting that the attack was politically motivated.

He stated, “Yes, I’m a member of the APP. I was informed of the attack at about 3 am today.

The State Police Command is yet to make a statement on the incident. Enquiries by Kristina Reports to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko was yet unreplied as at the time of this report.

Knowledgeable sources surmise that the incident may not be unconnected to rumours that the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, alongside his appointees, aides and supporters across the 23 local government areas of the State are set to decamp to the APP in the days to come.

They point to the galvanizing of the Simplified Movement across the State, postulating that it is the speed up to the move, which is aimed at undermining the PDP in the State.

Fubara had stated months ago that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had failed the people of the State, asserting that the party’s leadership had not played the role expected of it since the political crisis in the State began.

He said this on Thursday, June 28, 2024, while hosting a delegation of the Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, led by its Chairman, Orji Uzo Kalu, in Government House, Port Harcourt.

Monday morning’s incident appears to give credence to the statement by a former Governor of the State, who threatened to cause crisis in the State and make ungovernable for the incumbent Governor, asserting that “I may not win but will suffer”.
