The new market along King Perekule Bypass, popularly known as Berger Road, in Bonny Island, will be expanded to make room for a mini shopping mall, abattoir, and security outpost, amongst other facilities.
This is to make it a functional market that will meet the needs of a 21st century consumer population in Bonny LGA, especially with the train 7 project of the Nigeria LNG coming on stream soon.
Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha disclosed this on Thursday, April 11, 2019 when the executive of Bonny Main Market Traders’ Association led by their Chairman, David Pollyn visited him in Bonny.
The LG Council boss assured the union of maximum security henceforth for both the traders and buyers, informing them that the contract for the expansion project for market has already been awarded.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the Bonny Main Market Traders Association, David Pollyn said the purpose of their visit was to draw the attention of the local government Chairman to the recent occurrences at the main market and security challenges being faced by shop owners, traders, and even buyers on a daily basis at the market at the hands by hoodlums.
Also speaking, Secretary of the union, Chuta Fred Ezekiel appealed to the council boss to come to their aid before things go out of hand and further drew the attention of the council boss to the market at King Perekule Bypass, urging him to fast-track action on it so that the traders can move in.
