Residents of Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State have been called upon to place high premium on the cleanliness and sanitary wellbeing of their environment by participating fully in the monthly sanitation exercise.

This call was made by the Bonny Local Government via a statement on Friday, February 21, 2025 signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Bonny LGA Chairman, Boma Waribor and made available to newsmen in Bonny, Rivers State.

Chairman, Bonny LGA, Anengi Claude-Wilcox

The statement captioned “REMINDER ON FEBRUARY MONTHLY SANITATION EXERCISE IN BONNY LGA” reads in part:

“This is to remind the public that the monthly sanitation exercise in Bonny shall hold across the length and breadth of the LGA on Saturday, February 22nd, 2025 between the hours of 7am and 10am.

In view of the foregoing, residents, and business owners are encouraged to support the sanitation exercise by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainages, weeding shrubs, and disposing all generated refuse at designated pickup points.

It should be noted that automobile/pedestrian movements, street football and other acts inimical to the exercise would not be tolerated by the Bonny Local Government Council, as all hands are expected to be on deck in preparation for a flood-free raining season.”

On its part, the Bonny Local Government under the incumbent Chairman, Anengi Claude-Wilcox has demonstrated dexterous pragmatism in addressing the flooding challenges facing the island LGA by commencing the construction of drainage systems around the island.

Critical precipitation points such as New Jerusalem Road, Hospital Road, Abalamabie Road, Akiama Road, King Jaja, and New Layout Road are currently being worked on to emplace storm water drainages that would evacuate water from those areas to water bodies around Akiama and Abalamabie axis of the island.

Concerned stakeholders hint Kristina Reports that the move appears to be well-thought-out, especially, considering the imminent onset of the rainy season and those areas being flood-prone.
