Bonny-Bodo Road: House of Reps frowns at pace of work

The House of Representatives has frowned at the slow pace of work, especially, the non commencement of work on Bonny end of the Bonny-Bodo road project.

The House has consequently directed its Committee on Works and Legislative Compliance to investigate why work has not commenced on the Bonny-Bodo road since the flag-off of the project by the Federal Government since October 2017.

This decision was reached following a motion brought by the member representing Degema/Bonny federal constituency, Hon. Randolph Brown, who expressed serious concern that since the Federal Government flagged off the Bonny-Bodo road project in October, 2017, work was yet to commence on the Bonny end of the project.

Hon. Randolph Brown explained that despite the long conclusion of enumeration, assessment of compensation on the Right of Way and the relocation of public utilities by the consultants to the Federal Ministry of Power, Works, and Housing, the non-payment of compensation, he said has stalled work on the road project, causing social and economic hardship to the people despite the enormous resources the Federal Government was tapping from the Nigeria LNG from Bonny Kingdom.

The legislator said it was a disheartening and seemingly intentional neglect by the Federal Government because it was of the Niger Delta region, pointing out that other road projects that were awarded at the same time with the Bonny-Bodo Road project have already been completed and commissioned.

He stressed that it was an act of injustice to a region that produces 90 per cent of the resources of the nation.

He told the House that tension and suspicion were already rising by the people of Bonny Kingdom, and that if urgent attention is not given to complete the road project before the next raining season, it may cause break down of law and order.

After listening to the lawmaker, the House mandated its Committee on Works and Legislative Compliance to investigate into the issue and report back to the House for further legislative action
