A woman of many parts she is. Edith Ilamina Hart, popularly known as ‘Ilah’ that has affected lives in no small measure and put smiles on several faces. But she won’t be smiling this weekend as she bids her father, late Warisenibo Godspower Dagogo Herbert Banigo farewell.
The Bonny-born engineer, labour unionist, entrepreneur, and knight of the Anglican Communion would join her siblings to pay their last respects to their demised father on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
Already, the community is flooded with guests, her friends and well-wishers, who have come from far and near to commiserate with her on this auspicious day.
Popularly known as ‘Dede Power’, the late Warisenibo Godspower Dagogo Herbert Banigo was born on 27th July, 1945 into the Christian families of Late Mr Albert Banigo and Mrs Inengisigha Banigo all of Grand Bonny in Rivers State.
Dede Power, a very sociable anf affable personality, who enjoyed the company of people, passed on peacefully at about 1:50am of Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at Euro-Care International Hospital, Lagos, where he had earlier been diagnosed with ‘cardio-respiratory arrest’ and ‘pulmonary embolism’.
A family man devoted to the wellbeing of his family, the late Banigo is one of the founding members of the Bonny Marine Transport Association (BMTA) and had his speedboat named after his daughter, MV Ilamina’.
His famous daughter, Ilah, who is a member, Board of Trustees, Bonny Graduates Forum (BGF), member, Board of Trustees, Bonny Youth Movement (BYM), former Vice Chairman of the Petroleum and Naturla Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN), and Chairperson, APWEN, Bonny Branch, expressed satisfaction in the joy of having him as a father.
She told Kristina Reports that “he was a father everyone should pray to have,” extolling his sterling attributes, and recalling with nostalgia the “personal sacrifices he had to make to ensure we achieved our aspirations especially in education”.
