As the people of Bonny LGA of Rivers State struggle to recover from the rude shock occasioned by Saturday’s shooting by unknown gun men which led to kidnap, injuries and scamper after the burial of  late Kenneth Miebaradima Kalada Banigo at a creek community, Banigo Isile-Ogono, residents of the area are now speaking of their experience on the fateful day.

Kristina Reports had reported that aside the Leader of the Bonny Local Government Legislative Assembly, Miriam Hart, who sustained severe injuries from gunshots by the assailants and is currently undergoing intensive medical care, several others were also injured while some were even reportedly feared dead.

The whereabouts of four kidnapped persons, who had been identified as Sunny Hart, Theophilus Ibiama, Thompson Micah Allison and Daniel Robert Hart, are still unknown at the time of filling this report.

The guests who were lucky not to have been shot at, injured or kidnapped were those who scampered for safety into the nearby mangrove forests. These included the member representing Bonny Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Abinye Pepple, the Chairman of Bonny LGA, David Irimagha, Deputy leader of the Bonny Legislative Assembly, Dipinye Jumbo, Chairman of the Bonny Integrated Recruitment Centre (BIRC), Dagogo Jumbo, among many others.

Speaking with Kristina Reports on Sunday, one of the eyewitnesses of the gory incident (Name withheld), stated that shooting started few minutes after she alighted from a boat.

She said “As soon as I got down from the boat and climbed up, just five minutes, I began to hear shooting. As we heard that shooting, first, we thought it was the policemen because I saw some policemen. The next thing I saw people start running. I have to also run and hide myself in the swamp because already they had just put the man in the ground and people have started going back to Bonny.”

On the news of the abduction of four persons, the eyewitness affirmed that “they transferred them from the boat to their own boat and zoomed off”.

When asked if she was able to identify any of the kidnappers in a bid to gather useful information that will help to fish out the perpetrators of the attack, our source gave an emphatic response, “No!”

She said “You know they are at the waterfront; as for me, I was looking for my own life first. So, I have to enter inside the swamp and hide myself with leaves. It was when everywhere was a bit calm, and people have started coming out that I came out.”

Residents of Bonny LGA are hopeful that security agencies would establish the conjectures surrounding the attack with a view to releasung unhurt, the abductees for integration with their families and apprehending the perpetrators.
