Over 100 women drawn from the 11 political wards of INI Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State have been empowered with cash and tools to boost agricultural production in the 2024 planting season.
Dr. Offiong Offor
The support for the women was made available by the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Offiong Offor in order to encourage the participation of more women in agricultural production in the State.
Offor said it is expedient to take the message of Governor Umo Eno that all should go back to the farm to the women of INI LGA in particular and Akwa Ibom populace in general.
She appreciated the Governor for his passion towards agricultural development and food production adding that, the State will continue to support farmers in different value chains across the State.
In his remarks, the Transition Committee Chairman of INI LGA, Inibehe Uma said the occasion was at the instance of the Commissioner for Agriculture & Rural Development to give women financial power for agricultural production in line with the mandate of the governor.
Uma reasoned that, owing to the fact that women are more involved in agriculture and the blessing of the Local Government Area as the food basket of the State, there is need to encourage them financially to lease and prepare land for cultivation of crops.
