The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has called on the State Governor, Nyesom Wike to intervene and fix the collapsed bridge along Hospital Road in Bonny Island. The said bridge, which connects the main town with Akiama, Abalamanie and Oguede Communities, caved in and has since cut off traffic on that axis of the town. Commuters have had to make a detour of several kilometres to reach their destinations. Chairman of the APC in Bonny Chapter, Israel Pepple, and a former Chairman of Bonny LGA, Omuso Abbey, jointly expressed concern that, weeks after the collapse of the bridge, nothing has been done by either the state or local government to repair the damaged bridge. They called on the state government to intervene through the Ministry of Works to fix the road as quickly as possible, since the local government allegedly claims it was yet to be funded by the state government.
