The invitation today and eventual attendance of the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ojukaye Flag-Amachree to the National Executive Committee of the party in Abuja seems to have settled the issue of who is the authentic chairman in the state.
This has also shown the Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as having the upper hand in the power tussle between him and the Senator representing Rivers South East, Magnus Abe, over who controls the party in Rivers State.
The battle of supremacy has been ongoing since Amaechi allegedly directed all chieftains and supporters of the party to suspend the pursuit of their ambitions and rebuild the party.
In the course of the crisis, Abe’s supporters were edged out of the leadership structures of the party in the various local government area chapters.
They responded by referring to the new structure as ‘Amaechi’s structure’.
The recent ward and local government congresses was another battleground where the might of both men was tested with Amaechi effectively installing his men.
Flag-Amachree emerged as State Chairman while Abe’s group declared the former Deputy Chairman, Peter Odike as Chairman and inaugurated a secretariat for him along Aba Road, Port Harcourt.
Today’s participation in the APC NEC meeting seems to have resolved the issues surrounding the leadership of the party in the state given that Flag-Amachree has been recognized by the National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, and the national leadership.
