A socio-political pressure group, the G 30 Ibani Voice says in response to its concern for the harsh times being faced by Nigerians during the lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic it was donating some palliatives to people in the rural areas to cushion the effect of the lockdown.

Secretary General of the group, Godswill Hart said the motivation behind the initiative were the sympathy and milk of human kindness which were core values of the group, saying that it targeted the rural areas starting some communities in Bonny Local Government Area, which he described as “the most affected population”.

The palliatives include staple foods such as rice, beans, and garri, with cooking ingredients such as vegetable oil, palm oil, etc.

President of the G 30 Ibani Voice described the initiative as “our own little way of touching lives and impacting society positively,” stressing that “people are suffering, especially, in the rural areas and have no one to turn to, and this coronavirus pandemic has worsened the economic hardship they face”.

He called on governments at all levels to step up their interventions in the area of providing palliatives, warning that “if the federal, state and local governments don’t intervene by providing palliatives to cushion the effect of this lockdown, we may have a bigger problem of deaths resulting from hunger more than even the coronavirus”.

The G 30 Ibani Voice has been in front of advocacy for educational reforms and social impact improvements in different areas of human endeavour. In the past three years, it has awarded brilliant students in Bonny LGA with prize monies, academic books, and other incentives.

It has also rewarded the hardworking teachers and principals whose students perform well in their academics.
