KAGOTE Charges Ogoni Students to Shun Partisan Endorsement Ahead of 2027 General Elections
KAGOTE, the apex sociocultural organization of the Ogoni people has advised the newly elected leadership of the National Union of Ogoni Students (NUOS), to avoid endorsing political candidates vying for elective offices in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
President of the organization and Chief Executive Officer of Giolee Global Resources Limited, Lesi Maol, handed down the advice while receiving the elected executives of the students body on a courtesy visit on Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at the company’s corporate office in Port Harcourt.
Maol enjoined the student union leadership, led by its President, Aliba ThankGod, to promote the culture of sportsmanship, tolerance and respect for differing political views among members, stressing that political differences should not be allowed to create divisions within the union.
He further urged them to uphold the right of individual members to support any political candidates of their choice, regardless of their personal political affiliations.
The KAGOTE President, on a slightly different note, disclosed plans for a campus tour to engage Ogoni students across tertiary institutions in Rivers State to drive home the message.
He added that his interface with students from Ogoni at their respective campuses would provide an opportunity to interact directly with them, listen to their concerns and strengthen engagements for mutual profiting and assistance.
The visit was a gesture of appreciation to the KAGOTE leader as well as recognition of his fatherly role KAGOTE plays in advancing the interest of the Ogoni people, a rare asset the newly elected students leaders wish to leverage on as they settle down to kick-start their tenure.
