The astounding success story the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) has become, especially, its achievements in gas exports and transformation of the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) market in Nigeria, remains an inspiring one to many including the Republic of Netherlands.

This was the declaration of the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Nigeria, His Excellency, Harry van Dijk, when he visited the corporate head office of the Nigeria LNG in Port Harcourt.

“NLNG is an inspiring story. The predominate stories in the region are always not good but if you look at the coast, which is usually the richest area in any country, we can find inspiring stories like NLNG.”

The Dutch envoy, who was received upon arrival by the Managing Director of NLNG, Tony Attah, General Manager, External Relations, Eyono Fatayi-Williams, General Manager, Corporate Services, Joe Alagoa, and Manager, Corporate Communications, Sophia Horsfall, praised the sterling innovations that has brought extraordinary impact to the global gas market and the LPG market in Nigeria.

Earlier, Managing Director of the Nigeria LNG, Tony Attah had told the Dutch Ambassador that the company, as a responsible corporate citizen was committed to contributing to Nigeria’s economic development, which is demonstrated in its biggest achievement the Bonny-Bodo Road project where it was contributing 50 per cent of the total project cost.  

“Our biggest achievement remains the Bonny-Bodo Road, where NLNG is contributing 50% of the total project cost. There is no other way into Bonny Island except by water which has become unsafe lately. We believed that a road will impact lives and change the narrative”

“Still on Bonny-Bodo road, the government renewed its political will, found the right partner in NLNG, and we found the right contractor. All these have made the project possible and it is advancing smoothly.”

On impacting the LPG market in Nigeria, Attah said the move was aimed at safeguarding the health and environmental wellbeing of the country by expanding the energy options available to Nigerians.

“Over 400k people die from smoke inhalation because of lack of access to energy. NLNG has raised the game on LPG (cooking gas) supply in the country. We believe access to energy and availability of options can reduce tensions and flashpoints in Nigeria.”

Attah, a seasoned oil and gas expert with over 25 years’ experience, expressed the hope that “that Train 7 will, by impact, bring stability to the Niger Delta region,” announcing that “the project will create 12,000 direct jobs,” adding that “these jobs will help reduce the impact of poverty and that should allow progress to take centre stage.”

“The opportunity for gas is immense and that is why we say IT’S TIME FOR GAS. Gas is clean energy and gas will be here for a very long time.”

On her part, NLNG’s General Manager, External Relations, Eyono Fatayi-Williams disclosed that, in its 30 years of incorporation, has played a very critical role in positively changing the Nigeria’s profile in the ranks of gas flaring countries by contributing immensely to the reduction of gas flaring in Nigeria, saying that it was in furtherance of this that the company helped in setting up the Finima Nature Park to serve as a carbon sink in the area.

“NLNG has largely helped to fulfil the reduction of gas flaring in Nigeria and positively changed the country’s profile in the ranks of gas flaring countries.”

“In Bonny, NLNG helped to set up Finima Nature Park that acts as a carbon sink on the Island. Hopefully in April 2020, the park will become a Ramsar site and we look forward to celebrating this achievement.”

“NLNG’s history is told in blocks of 30 years. We celebrated 30 years of incorporation in 2019, marking the end of the 2nd block. The next block is the future. Train 7 is our future.”

“30 years ago, nobody would believe that any company in Nigeria can deliver effectively in its business, but we have done that and we are very proud of this accomplishment.”
