To Start Frying Akara, Roasting Corn Does Not Need Plenty Money – Tinubu’s Wife Encourages Nigerians To Be Self-Reliant
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has admonished citizens to venture into frying akara, roasting corn, nd producing kuli kuli as way of being self-reliant.
Mrs. Tinubu said this on Thursday, June 25, 2026 while briefing newsmen shortly after a meeting with wives of the 36 state governors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The First Lady stated that businesses of such nature are not capital-intensive, and make faster returns on investment.
“To start akara business doesn’t take a lot of money. To start roasting corn or kuli-kuli doesn’t take much.”
“We have encouraged Nigerians as best as we could, we have given people a grant, I also gave to several others.”
She asserted that her husband has encouraged Nigerians in several ways and assisted them with grants to go into frying akara, roasting corn, producing kuli-kuli.

She also outlined several donations running into billions of naira, which she has made to different set of citizens to encourage them.
Her statement has however drawn scathing reactions by Nigerians on social media, who described her postulates as unfortunate, unbecoming and clueless coming from the First Lady of a country.
Some wondered if frying akara, roasting corn and producing kuli kuli is how economically advanced nations achieved such mileage.
