ASEPA to Begin Enforcement of Waste Bucket Policy in Aba

The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA), Aba Zone, has announced plans to commence enforcement of its waste bucket policy for residents and commercial operators across Aba beginning July 1, 2026.

The agency said the initiative will affect households, business premises, tricycle operators and commercial bus drivers as part of efforts to improve waste management and sanitation within the city.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 18, 2026, by the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA, Aba Zone, Okezie Ezengwa, residents and business owners who have already purchased waste buckets were urged to put them into proper use for waste disposal.

The agency warned that the buckets must not be diverted for other purposes, noting that violators would face government sanctions.

ASEPA also advised individuals and commercial operators who are yet to obtain the approved waste buckets to do so before the commencement of enforcement.

According to the agency, the waste buckets are available at its office located along Ikot-Ekpene Road in Aba, opposite Aba Power near Bata Junction.

The environmental agency stated that defaulters risk arrest and prosecution once the enforcement exercise begins.

ASEPA said the measure forms part of ongoing efforts by the Abia State Government to promote environmental cleanliness and proper waste disposal practices in Aba.

Residents were encouraged to comply with the directive and support the government’s drive towards maintaining a cleaner and healthier city environment.

The agency also provided dedicated telephone lines for inquiries and further information regarding the programme.
