Power Firm Employee Jailed Pending Bail Over Alleged Meter Tampering in Aba
An employee of Aba Power Limited Electric has been remanded in custody over his alleged involvement in an electricity theft scheme uncovered in Aba.
The suspect, Ifeaka Anagha, who serves as an Operations and Maintenance Superintendent, was arrested following intelligence linking him to a suspected arrangement with a Maximum Demand customer, Sunday Anudu.

Investigations by the company revealed that the customer’s business, located in Osisioma, was allegedly consuming electricity without proper meter recording, particularly during off-peak hours.
Acting on the report, the company collaborated with the Nigeria Police Force to launch a joint operation involving its security and revenue monitoring teams.
The operation led to Anagha’s arrest on March 10, 2026, at the business premises. An aide at the facility was also detained after reportedly obstructing officials from inspecting the electricity meter.
Checks carried out at the site indicated that while the facility was powered and operational, the meter showed zero consumption, suggesting possible tampering.
The suspects were subsequently taken to the Osisioma Police Division, while the business owner was invited for questioning.
Anagha was later arraigned before Magistrate Court 3 in Abayi on March 13, 2026, where he pleaded not guilty. The court ruled that the case should proceed under the Criminal Code.
Although bail was granted, the conditions were yet to be met as of the time of filing this report, leading to his detention at a Nigerian Correctional Service facility in Aba.
The matter has been adjourned to April 22, 2026, for further proceedings.
