Finima Carnage: LG Chairman Sues for Peace, Insists Freedom of Association, a Constitutional Right

Against the backdrop of the carnage that happened in Finima Community, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Abinye Pepple has urged all parties involved to embrace peace, tolerance and unity, asserting, however, that constitutional freedoms are sacrosanct and inalienable.

Pepple, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Wisdom Chapp-Jumbo, said this during a peace meeting on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, with the leadership of the Asawo (youth bodies) of the Brown and Tobin Houses in Bonny, Rivers State.

The Bonny LGA Chairman commended the restraint and relative calm demonstrated so far in Finima, while condemning the violent incident of Saturday, September 27, 2025.

He reminded members of both houses that Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) guarantees every citizen the right to freedom of association, assembly, and peaceful coexistence.

He therefore urged both parties to uphold mutual respect, dialogue, and harmony as the pathway to sustainable peace.

Finima Community in Bonny LGA of the State boiled over at the weekend when some miscreants invaded the venue of a traditional ceremony by the Tobin House Owu-Ogbo and unleashed horrific violence of its members.

Kristina Reports reliably learnt that it took the intervention of the 146 Battalion Nigerian Army and Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base to quell the crisis, chase away the hoodlums and restore calm in the area.
