BREAKING! INEC Releases Voters Register to RSIEC for August 9 Local Government Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the updated Register of Voters for Rivers State and the current list of Registered Political Parties in Nigeria to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).

This is in furtherance of RSIEC’s efforts at conducting the rescheduled local government elections in the State.

A press release on Thursday, March 13, 2025 by RSIEC signed by its Commissioner in charge of Media and Civic Education, Tamunotonye Tobins disclosed that both documents were received on Thursday, March 13, 2025.

Tobins stated that the release was in response to a request by the Commission for the release of the documents ahead of the local council elections.

“The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission is pleased to inform all stakeholders, political parties and the well-meaning citizens of the State: that as part of ongoing preparations for the forthcoming Local Government Council Elections, the Commission has secured from the INEC Headquarters, the updated Register of Voters for Rivers State together with the current list of Registered Political Parties in Nigeria.”

“These two important documents were released to RSIEC today vide letter No. INEC/RVI/SVRI494/155 dated 13 March, 2025 (copy attached herewith).”  

Sequel to a recent Supreme Court judgment which nullified the Saturday, October 5, 2024 polls, RSIEC rescheduled the local government elections to now hold on Saturday, August 9, 2025, across the 23 LGAs.

With these two critical documents in its possession, RSIEC has assured the people of the State that it was determined to conduct a free, fair and credible election.  

“The Chairman and Members of the Commission hereby reassures the good people of Rivers State of the Commission’s resolve to conduct a credible, free and fair elections come Saturday, 9th August, 2025.”
