In a ceremony held on March 3, 2025, at the Tai Local Government Council Secretariat in Saakpenwa, Rivers State, former Chairman, Matthew Dike officially transferred leadership and all council assets to Head of Local Government Administration (HLGA) Gogo Abel.

The handover comes in compliance with the directive issued by Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara during his last Sunday State broadcast, following the Supreme Court judgement on the Local Government Election held on October 5, 2024.

The formal handover, witnessed by directors and principal officers of Tai Local Government Area, underscored a smooth leadership transition aimed at reinforcing the region’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of its people.

While expressing gratitude for the support received from his staff and the Tai community, urged, Abel to continue implementing projects and programmes that benefit the people.

“Governance at all levels is a continuum,” Dike remarked, emphasizing that despite his relatively short tenure, his administration managed to achieve significant milestones geared toward improving living standards.

He credited these accomplishments to the conducive work environment fostered by the state Governor, Fubara and the unwavering support of the Tai people.

Responding on behalf of the council, Abel commended Dike’s exemplary leadership and assured the community that the council would persist in its commitment to initiatives that uplift the local populace.

According to Dike, the handover does not only mark a pivotal change in leadership but also reinforce the continuing mandate to prioritize people’s welfare across all levels of government in Tai Local Government Area.
