Having witnessed over a century of history, his perspective on life offers a profound message to younger generations.

Obiwumma Celestine stands as the oldest man in Umujereogu Umuimeka Olaukwu Autonomous Community in Oforola, Owerri West Local Government Area, Imo State.

In an interview with Kristina Reports on Sunday, February 2025, at the home where he has spent most of his life, Obiwumma reflected on the changes he has seen.

“When I was young, people lived with honesty and mutual respect. Life was simpler, and we valued hard work and patience,” he said with a knowing gaze. “Now, many youths are chasing fast wealth without understanding its consequences.”

The village elder expressed concern over the increasing engagement of young people in fraudulent activities and ritual practices.

“The desire for quick money is destroying our children. They are dying young because they ignore the virtues of patience and integrity,” he lamented. “What is wealth if it comes at the cost of human life?”

Obiwumma emphasized that crime ultimately leads to ruin.

“Ill-gotten wealth never brings peace. Those who pursue it end up imprisoned or living in constant fear”.

He also spoke about the spiritual consequences of wrongdoing.

“The land remembers everything. In our time, we respected the power of curses and the repercussions of shedding innocent blood, young people must return to the values of love, trust, and family unity”.

Despite his age, Obiwumma remains mentally sharp and deeply reflective.

“I have lived a life with no regrets because I chose the right path, I urge the youth to think beyond immediate gains and consider the legacy they will leave behind”.

Offering parting wisdom, he said, “Life is straightforward, fear God, work hard, love your people, avoid evil, and let the land bless you”.

His wisdom is more than just advice; it is a reminder for today’s youth to embrace integrity and patience, ensuring a future built on trust, respect, and purpose.
