The Rivers State chapter of the APC has been embroiled in a power tussle between the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and the immediate past Senator representing Rivers South-East, Magnus Abe, over who controls the party.
The resultant crisis led to the exclusion of the party from the ballot in the 2019 general elections in the state.
Amaechi had announced during a reception in his honour after his inauguration as Transportation Minister that party faithful in the state should prepare for ward, local government and state congresses.
But, in a swift reaction, Abe pooh-hoohed the idea of the congresses as announced by Amaechi, heralding another round of bickering between the duo.
The imminent congresses will be strategic to repositioning the party ahead of the 2023 electioneering season.
