The Bonny Chief’s Council has extended its felicitations to a former Chairman of the Board of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), Se-Alabo Dr. Osobonye Rogers Longjohn, on the occasion of his 90th birthday.
This felicitation was conveyed via a congratulatory message signed by the Chairman of Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), Se-Alabo (Amb.) Dagogo Soala Claude-Wilcox, MON, FSS, KSC, on Thursday, October 24, 2024 and made available to Kristina Reports in Bonny, Rivers State.
Se-Alabo Dr. Osobonye Rogers LongJohn, JP, MBBS, ASCON, FRCS, FMCS, FWACS, FICS, Amonibienyeofori IX, Sikaka I, is the Chief and Head of LongJohn Major House of Grand Bonny Kingdom.
The BCC Chairman saluted Se-Alabo Dr Longjohn who was once a Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs Council, acknowledging his invaluable contributions to the progress of both the BCC and NLNG, noting that while in office, he guided both organizations towards unity and progress.
“As a former Chairman of Bonny Chiefs’ Council and former Chairman of the Board of Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), your contributions to the development of the country and Bonny Kingdom in particular need not be overemphasized.”
“Your invaluable contributions and rich experience have greatly enriched our Council, guiding us towards unity and progress.”
The traditional ruler, on behalf of the Council wished the former Chairman long life and good health and prayed to God to keep him alive to enjoy the fruits of his labour.

Se Alabo Dr. Osobonye Rogers LongJohn, JP, Amonibienyeofori IX, Sikaka I, was born on Thursday, October 24, 1935 at Abalamabie in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State. He had his formal education at Government School Bonny, Kings College Lagos and University College Ibadan, graduating MBBS, London in April 1962.
After post-graduate education at the Royal College of Surgeons, England, United Kingdom; University of Pittsburgh, United States, and the Administrative Staff College of Nigeria (ASCON), Badagry, Lagos State, he conferred with Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) Edinburgh in 1970, Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) Nigeria, 1972, Fellow West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), 1973 and Fellow International College of Surgeons (FICS), 1978, as well as a Certificate in Advanced Management (CAM) from University of Pittsburgh in 1977.
Available records have it that in the expression of his devotion of his life to service to humanity, he, as a Consultant Surgeon, resuscitated the surgical services of Rivers State at the former General Hospital, Port Harcourt, after the civil war in 1971, offering highly dedicated surgical care to citizens of the State. He is also credited with efforts at ridding Bonny Island of all hernias and hydrocodes free of charge.
Se-Alabo Dr Longjohn was the first autonomous Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital, Alakahia, Port Harcourt, midwifing the upgrading of the General Hospital to a fully accredited Teaching Hospital from 1985 to 1994.
He was also the Chairman, Committee of Chief Medical Directors between 1989 and 1994, President, West African Orthopedic Association, and member of the Court of Examiners of the West African College of Surgeons from 1988 till date.
Dr. Osobonye Rogers Longjohn was investitured with the Amaopusenibo titled of Grand Bonny Kingdom by the then Amanyanabo, His Majesty, King Captain Opuada Secondus Pepple, Perekule X in 1979.
He was later appointed the Secretary of the Ibani-Se Council and served between 1984 and 1989, before his installation as the Chief and Head of the Longjohn Major House of Abalamabie in Grand Bonny Kingdom on Friday, May 5, 1989 and presented to the Amanyanabo who inducted him into the Bonny Council of Chiefs, on Saturday, May 6, 1989.
Se-Alabo Osobonye Rogers Longjohn, was elected Chairman of the Bonny Chiefs Council in 1992 and served as Chairman of the BCC as well as Chairman of the Regency Council until 1996.
He was appointed the Chairman, Board of Directors of the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) in 2005 and served until 2020 when a new Chairman was appointed. Se-Alabo Dr. Osobonye Rogers Longjohn, Amonibienyeofori IX, is happily married with children and grandchildren.
