LG Election: SDP Candidate Promises to Transform Bonny LGA Economically, Infrastructure-Wise

As the countdown to the Saturday, October 5, 2024 local government elections continues, the chairmanship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Bonny Local Government Area, Ibimam Green has promised to transform the economy, infrastructure and social life of the area.

Green made this promise on Wednesday, October 2, 2024 during the flag-off of his campaign in Bonny, Rivers State.

Ibimam Green and his running mate, Stephen Wilcox are contesting against his kinswoman and candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Anengi Claude-Wilcox on Saturday.  

Addressing his supporters during the flag-off, Green promised to kickstart an agricultural revolution that would see the people of Bonny LGA growing the food they consume, just as he promised deploy the resources accruing to the LGA to transform the local economy and thus improve the living conditions of the people.

“I will start an agricultural revolution; I will invest heavily in Agriculture, I will bring out money and fund your farming. Show me where your farm is and we will give you money to buy farming implements and seedlings to grow your farm. Bonny people will grow the food they eat.”

“Where are all the monies coming to this LGA? The tenement rate, the levies and all the monies companies are paying? I will use them to transform Bonny. I will change the face of the town. Bonny cannot be looking like a village.”

He promised the youths that he will build a skills acquisition centre where skills required in the various construction projects in Bonny will be taught with accompanying requisite ceertifications, adding that he will also prioritize the scholarships and the payment of bursary to indigent students.

The SDP candidate also promised to improve security in the area by engaging professionals and stakeholders in the sector to identify and deal with threats to security in the LGA, lamenting that several indigenes and residents of the LGa have lost their lives to sea pirates attacks due to what he described as “lack of security”.

He asserted that the policy thrust of his administration when elected into office will be public sector accountability, stressing that “Bonny people will know how much they are getting from the companies, from the State and from the federal”.

He promised to make free medical services available for women and children in the area and also work with relevant stakeholders to reduce the cost of healthcare for the generality of the people, noting that the health and wellbeing of the people was a critical issue that any responsible government should give priority to.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Bonny Chapter, Tonye Banigo had appealed to the people of Bonny to come out enmasse on Saturday, October 5, 2024 and vote massively for the SDP, assuring them that the candidate of the party will deliver the dividends of good governance when he assumes office.

Among the teeming crowd that graced the occasion were people from all walks fo life who thronged the venue of the flag-off to show their support for the SDP chairmanship candidate for the October 5, 2024 election.
