In its efforts at deepening security in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State, troops of 146 Battalion, Nigerian Army have arrested a suspected gun runner, Henry Tolofari with a Barretta Pistol, 9mm ammunition and also seized substances suspected to be indian hemp from him.
The Commanding Officer 146 Battalion, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi disclosed this to Kristina Reports on Friday, September 27, 2024 at the Farouk Yahaya Camp, home of the Battalion in Bonny, Rivers State.
He revealed that the suspect was apprehended by troops of the Battalion upon arrival in Bonny with intent to avoid been searched on sighting own troops, took to his heels but was apprehended and a Barretta pistol loaded with live ammunition as well as wraps of substances suspected to be indian hemp were found on him.
Upon interrogation, the suspect revealed that he was tasked with procuring the weapon by a client (names withheld) and was mandated to deliver it to another client in Bonny on the night of Thursday.
Tolofari pleaded with the authorities to show him mercy, claiming that it was his first time in the business, promising not to involve himself again.
Lt. Col. Oyewumi asserted that the effort by his troops aligns with the drive by the Federal Government to checkmate the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.
He stressed that no stone would be left unturned in making Bonny Island and adjoining communities safe for habitation and business endeavours.
He added that troops of 146 Battalion were in pursuit of Tolofari’s accomplices and would soon apprehend them and bring them to face justice.
The Commanding Officer of the 146 Battalion, Nigerian Army, Lt. Col. Oyemade Oyewumi urged the good people of Bonny Local Government Area to go about their normal activities as his troops are charged in ensuring safety of lives and properties.
