The Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom have issued a warning to Nigerian wives, urging them to stop using police intervention to force their husbands out of their homes.

This caution was delivered during a church service at Divine Restoration International Church in Camberwell, London, where officers addressed a predominantly Nigerian female audience.

According to the officers, over 70% of Yoruba women in England, Wales, and Ireland are single mothers, with some allegedly using threats of police involvement to remove the fathers of their children from the home.

The police raised concerns that this practice was being used to secure welfare benefits at the expense of family stability.

A police officer, who was supported by colleagues from different ethnic backgrounds, stressed the importance of fathers in a child’s life and the detrimental impact of separating them from their children.

He advised against involving the police in domestic matters, warning that such actions could disrupt the family structure and harm the wellbeing of the children due to the lack of paternal care.

In addition to this, the officer urged Nigerian women to remain vigilant and avoid becoming victims of knife crimes, which are a growing concern within African diaspora communities.

He highlighted the importance of both parents’ active participation in raising their children to ensure a healthy family environment.

The message sparked mixed reactions online.

A user named Gogoman commented: “70% of Yoruba women… evil people… no woman on this earth can send me out of my house,” dismissing the police’s concerns with defiance.

In response, Edwarddy cautioned: “Oga, stop making such statements… You’ve not met your small devil of a woman because you’re lucky… Millions said the same thing if not more.”

Another user, Holopid, shifted focus from Yoruba women, noting: “It has nothing to do with Yoruba women! Even White women throw men out always. White women are even worse.”

Yet another user, HSEMAM1, shared his personal experience, saying: “Even if UK police repeat the call, it’s too late because I am a victim of my UK wife falsely calling the police on me to get me out of the house I bought.”

“Thank God I have three children with her, and I am very good now.” The issue has sparked an ongoing debate about the dynamics between Nigerian couples abroad and the role of law enforcement in family disputes.
