Against the backdrop of inadequate reportage of happenings in the energy and maritime sector of the economy, especially, their direct and indirect impact on the Niger Delta region, a media group, the Energy and Maritime Reporters Corps of Nigeria (EMR) has risen to the occasion by providing a platform for discussing the issues involved.

EMR will on Thursday, December 6, 2018, hold a One-Day Seminar to discuss issues in the oil and gas, energy and maritime sector of the economy, their impact on the Niger Delta region, among other related issues.

The occasion, which will be chaired by a former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas, will hold at the main hall of the Ernest Ikoli Press Centre, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt, by 10am.

In a statement signed by the Seminar Committee Secretary Mr. Soibi Oruwari, and made available to newsmen, EMR said the seminar shall also include a short tuition on the lexicons of Maritime and Energy sectors for field reporters and editors.

In a chat with Kristina Reports, EMR Chairman, Mr. Martins Giadom explained that the seminar seeks to bridge the gaps in the reportage of the energy and maritime sector, deepen the synergy between the Media and industry players in the sector and highlight issues of concern to the economy.

According to him, “we’re at an important threshold of our nation’s existence and if this all-important sector that has remained the pivot of our economic earnings since independence is not properly reported, we may continue to wallow in economic stagnation as a nation”.

EMR’s statement enjoins all operators in Energy and Maritime sectors, journalists and patriotic Nigerians to endeavour to attend and with a view to making strategic contributions on the way forward.
