Residents of Uye Estate in Ifa Ikot Okpon-Etoi, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, on Saturday, rolled out their drums in celebration of an intervention approach by the Transition Committee Chairman of the local government, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo.

The Road Intervention Initiative was the grading of the internal roads in the estate which were abandoned for many years.

Speaking to our correspondent who visited the area, the estate residents expressed satisfaction to Dr. Udo for extending the Road-Grading Intervention Initiative to the area which had remained underdeveloped up until the grading exercise.

A resident, Victor Etukudoh, said the estate roads had deteriorated due to heavy rainfall in previous months, causing significant damage.

He said in view of the degree of damage, movement in and out of the estate was difficult, as vehicle owners often visited mechanic workshops for routine repairs.

Mr. Etukudoh, however commended the Transition Committee Chairman for stepping in to ease movement and give the estate a facelift.

“The roads were in a terrible state after the heavy rainfall we experienced. We are grateful that the Chairman, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo, intervened with his initiative.

“I moved into the estate in February this year, and I have heard about the chairman’s consistent efforts to improve roads in the area. I fully support his work and pray for his continued success in Uyo.”

Other residents, including Effiong Okon Eyo, also known as Afia Owo, highlighted Dr. Udo’s dedication to enhancing the road infrastructure in the estate for the convenience of its residents.

He recalled previous instances where road improvements were made in the estate and other areas in the local government, saying the initiative had demonstrated Dr. Udo’s commitment to improving the economic well-being of rural communities.

The residents therefore, pledged to continue to support all the programmes and policies of Dr. Udo which they said were geared towards human development.
