As the nationwide protest against hunger hits harder, goring every facet of the Nigerian economy and leaving the citizens bewildered, a cleric, Sylvester Ogiehe has concurred to the current situation.
In a chat with Kristina Reports on Saturday, August 3, 2024, Ogiehe, who is the Senior Pastor of Christ Portal Ministries, Evbotubo Community in Benin City, Edo State affirmed that there is no better time for a protest than now, given the current economic realities people are faced with.
The clergy described it as a demonstration of displeasure of abnormality, asserting that it is aimed at achieving a goal.
“There’s no better time for protest than this. Some people feel like the administration of the president is just one year but the fact is the stomach doesn’t know whether an administration is a year old or not.”
“When there are genuine concerns and people see that their needs are not being met, they resort to protest”.
The clergy also said that demonstration is the right of the citizens as long as the law is not broken.
“Protest is not bad, it is constitutional and citizens have that inalienable right to protest, provided the protest is within the ambience of the law then it’s their right.”
“People protest to show forth their displeasure. Protest is only a demonstration of the displeasure of abnormality. So it is aimed at achieving something.”
The clergy, however, advised that it should be done peacefully, further calling on the government to swing into action immediately.
