As the nationwide protest planned for August 1 to 15, 2024 draws nearer, some businessmen around the nation have raised complaints about how impoverishment will ravage the nation should this protest take place.
Speaking with Kristina Reports, Nnodim Great, a businessman stated that businesses are byproducts and one of the indices used to measure growth of the economy and as such it is not interesting to consider businesses being subjected to situations that leading to their dwindling.
Nnodim added that shutting down of economic activities during a protest would be infinitesimal compared to the aftermath of the protest.
“This protest will restrict movement of people and as such, there will be low turn out. And those who would place orders for goods will not get their goods, banks may also close down and transactions may not be possible”.
When asked about possible ways to avert this, Nnodim explained that it is far-fetched and anything is actually possible.
“When the masses have set their heart to do something, anything is possible. Currently, for fear, some businesses have been shut down, airlines have closed up, some link roads have been blocked”.
Nnodim described the government as a failed government and it’s important to realize this.
“We’ve not had governance in a long time and it’s obvious because of greed they are occupying offices. Nigeria is getting to a point where our leaders will run away.”
“I’m not going to advise the Nigeria government, because they are like a garbage and I know something hard is coming and that wave will sweep off bad governance. I’m not just talking about politicians; I’m talking about judges who have failed as well as several arms.”
Eriobunah Chimezie, a businessman who deals on carpentry tools and machine equipment, residing in Onitsha said for him, the situation is bad and it will cause more problems for the business sector.
“This is because custom won’t buy goods until they know how the protest is going. This is going to be a bad market”.
