The Caretaker Committee of Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State has indicated interest in settling the power supply bills and lift the burden off residents, adding that until their tenure elapses, residents will enjoy 15 hours’ power supply daily.

Speaking with Kristina Reports on Thursday, July 25, 2024, a member of the Committee, Kendrick Christian affirmed that the LG Council is willing to pay for the bills henceforth, stressing, however, that residents are encouraged to apply caution in their usage.

“They should endeavour to turn off appliances when not in use. People should turn off their bulbs in the afternoon. The bill is written according to the power usage.”

“So, any appliance not in use should be put off. If you are paying for it, you would know that you won’t turn on the bulb cus you wouldn’t want your metre to run out.”

L-R Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara in a handshake with the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Okrika LGA, Princess Ibiene Ogan, shortly after inaugurating her and 22 others at Government House, Port Harcourt.

Kendrick added that the role of the people is the watchdog function, saying that they should endeavour to bring the LG Council to the know over any unauthorized activity.

“We’re advising the people of okrika to report any unscrupulous people disguising as PHED requesting for power bills.”

Reacting, one of the indigenes, Crist Martin commended the efforts of the chairman and the incumbent government advising that the dividends of this governance should be utilized properly.

“The administration of Governor Siminalayi is indeed for the good of the people as his instruction to the CTC members is nothing but for the development of our dear LGAs and the State at large.”

“I would advise okrikans to ultilise the dividend of good governance and not be a party to destroy her rather give her support to it and stand for good governance anyday.”

One of the religious leaders, Boma Loveday said it is a welcome development.

“This is one prayer that the people have been making and finally it has come to be by the instrument of the Chairman. All Okrikans should be grateful and show support.”

“We must give her all the support that she will need althrough her tenure as the chairman and anticipate for good governance in the next local government election.”

Another indigene, Tamunosiki David described the chairman as ‘a leader for the masses’ by lifting the weight of light bill payment, saying that she has set her track records for her political missions going forward.

“Princess Ibiene Ogan has fully shown that she’s a leader for the masses. This is something that’s happening in our sister communities where the chairmen pay the light bills.”

“We are most grateful as we welcome this development especially coming from a woman for taking this bold step to ensure that we have a better supply of light. We embrace it with our full hands.”

“This will ensure accountability on the part of those who supply power.”
