The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi, CFR, Ojaja II, has fiercely denied the allegations of Osun State-born Nigerian medical doctor based in the United States, Oladoyin Fagbule, who claimed to have been scammed of $180,000 by him.

The US-based Nigerian born medical doctor sparked what has now become a scandal rocking the halls of Nigerian royalty.

The explosive allegations, amplified by a viral blogger, using the sobriquet, 99% OPPRESSED @PIDOMNIGERIA on X formerly Twitter, have painted a picture of trust betrayed and dreams shattered.

The controversy began when a popular blogger on X (formerly Twitter) claimed that the revered monarch, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, received a hefty sum from an Osun-born woman named Fagbule in a supposed marriage scam.

The post, accompanied by a voicenote, alleged that the Ooni had a close relationship with the victim, an Ile-Ife indigene who aimed to organize free medical services for women and children in her hometown but ended up being conned.

In a fierce rebuttal, the Ooni of Ife categorically denied the allegations. Through his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, Ogunwusi slammed the claims as “fake, untrue, and absolutely unfounded.”

“That the news as posted by a Twitter (now X) handle called ‘99% OPPRESSED’ is fake, untrue, and absolutely an unfounded allegation only adopted as a nugatory character assassination tactic aimed at achieving a cheap popularity with a view to drawing huge followers/traffic for avaricious monetization from Twitter (X),” the statement read.

The monarch denied any personal connection with Fagbule, insisting that she had fallen prey to scammers impersonating him.

He also issued a stern warning to women against their desperation to become his wife, implying that such desperation made them easy targets for fraudsters.

Ogunwusi criticized Fagbule’s approach, suggesting that instead of taking to social media, she should have reported her grievances to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the appropriate authorities to handle such serious matters.

The allegations and the Ooni’s vehement rebuttal have set the stage for a dramatic showdown, with reputations hanging in the balance and the stakes higher than ever.
