Housing: Akwa Ibom to Deliver 164 Homes for Vulnerable Families by September

Another set of beneficiaries have been selected in the shelter for the poorest of the poor in Akwa Ibom State. The target of the state government is to provide 400 decent accommodation for the most vulnerable in the 368 political wards in the state.

At a brief ceremony to hand over sites to resource persons, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, Nsikanabasi Umoekpo, charged them to build according to specification.

Umoekpo listed the features to include solar power system, solar powered borehole, furniture aimed at making life comfortable.

In Uruan Local Government Area, the proposed beneficiary, Idorenyin Obot, a widow from Ndom Ebom Village, recounted her life story marked by challenges and appreciated Governor Eno for his efforts to support the vulnerable citizens, and the less privileged.

Another beneficiary in Eyibia Village, Udung Uko Local Government Area, Comfort Anangatang, a widow of over a decade said she has struggled for long to provide accomodation for her family without help, and therefore described Governor Eno as God sent leader to Akwa Ibom State.

Madam Anangatang has been living in a dilapidated home with a leaky roof, exposing her and her three children to the adverse weather.

In Eyo-Obiosio, Edikor, Udung Uko Local Government Area, another widow will soon have a decent home courtesy of the state government. Arit Asuquo who has struggled for two decade to provide for her family heaved a big sigh of relief having found favour and will benefit from the initiative.

In Ikot Obong Village, Nsit Atai Local Government Area, a widow and her five children have been rescued from a life of hardship and despair. Madam Rebecca Effiong’s home collapsed three months ago, forcing her and her children to seek shelter in the bush.

In Asang village, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, a widow’s dream of a safe and comfortable home has finally come true. The woman, Edoama Friday, whose thatched house collapsed, leaving her exposed to the elements, will receive a fully furnished two-bedroom bungalow courtesy of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative in the next couple of months.

The team from Governor’s Office, led by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Humanitarian Services, Prince Nsikanabasi Umoekpo visited the various vulnerable sites, bringing news of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Compassionate Homes initiative.

The Governor’s Aide flanked by his colleague, Mfon Israel, handed over the projects to the resource persons, harping on a two-month completion timeline, as the rain increases.

The project is part of the 164 new Arise Compassionate Homes approved by the State governor to ameliorate the sufferings of the poorest of the poor across the State.

At Afaha Udoeyop, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government, a visually impaired person Godman Ukana and wife will have a new home courtesy of the state government.

The couple, who have been living in a challenging situation, will at the completion of their new fully-furnished two bedroom bungalow home in line with the administration’s ARISE Compassionate Home Initiative join the league of 400 vulnerable families whose stories are changed for the better.
