Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has announced Eze Ohna Apara Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Chike Worlu Wodo, as the new Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers.
Fubara announced this on Friday, June 21, 2024 while presiding over a special meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers (RSCTR) at the Banquet Hall of Government House in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
By this appointment, Eze Ohna Apara Kingdom replaces the Council’s erstwhile Chairman, Nye Nwe-Eli and Paramount Ruler of Emohua Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Eze Ohna Sergeant Chidi Awuse, Oloh IV.
Incidentally, Apara Kingdom includes Rumuepirikom, the homestead of the Governor’s political arch rival and erstwhile benefactor, Nyesom Wike, who is currently the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
Eze Ohna Awuse has been missing in action since the crisis between Fubara and Wike broke out in the State, thus engendering calls for a new Chairman to be appointed for the State Council of Traditional Rulers.
The Governor, in his address to the traditional rulers, said the decision was aimed at repositioning the traditional ruler council to aptly play its very strategic role in stabilizing the State and contributing to the social development and economic growth of the State.
He equally stated that his administration is making a clear departure from the era of denigrating royal fathers in the State as was witnessed during the past administration in the State, assuring the traditional rulers of his government’s collaboration in driving its policies and programmes.
In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Ohna Apara Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, King Chike Worlu Wodo thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in him.
He assured his colleagues of a collaborative approach to addressing issues affecting the State and supporting the government to succeed.
In attendance at the meeting were two former Chairmen of the RSCTR, Amanyanabo ad Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, DSSRS, JP, Perekule XI, and the Amanyanabo and Treaty King of Opobo Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr Dandeson Douglas Jaja, Jeki V, as well as several other first class traditional rulers.
Others were the State Deputy Governor, Professor Ngozi Odu, Secretary to State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Israel Iboroma, and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr Ehie Edison, amongst others.
