Prominent citizens of Rivers State have continued to drum support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara in the ongoing face-off with erstwhile members of the State House of Assembly.
The latest is coming from a former Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Leyii Kwane, who commended the Governor for taking a crucial step towards restoring stability in the State’s governance.
Kwane, who was the Deputy to Otelemaba Amachree, during the 8th Rivers Assembly, was particularly pleased with the nomination of Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as a commissioner-designate in the State Executive Council.
The former Number Two legislator in Rivers State, alongside two former Speakers, Adams Dabotorudima and Edison Ehie, and a former Deputy Speaker, Marshall Uwom, attended the sitting of the State Assembly where Iboroma, SAN was screened and confirmed.
Advancing his advice for action to address governance crisis in the State, the Ogoni-born legislator said the Governor’s move demonstrates his commitment to upholding the principles of democracy and ensuring the effective functioning of the state’s government.
He urged him to sustain the momentum by sending more nominees to the Assembly to fill the remaining vacant positions in the State Executive Council.
Kwane, who lamented that the current political crisis in the State has adversely affected governance, said it is imperative that swift action be taken to address the situation by filling critical positions.
He asserted that filling up the rest political offices will enable the wheel of governance to move forward smoothly, providing the much-needed services and support to Rivers people.
On the defection of the pro-Wike lawmakers, the former Deputy Speaker called on the electoral management body, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections immediately to fill the vacant positions in the State Legislature as provided by law.
“This will ensure that the state’s governance is truly representative of the people’s will,” he said.
